For schools

Go4orienteering is a non-profit organization and its main goal is to promote exercise in general and orienteering more specifically. For this purpose more than 1300 exercises have been developed over the past years and their number still increases. The exercises are fun but challenging, readymade and suited for all ages. The exercising sets have basic and competitive but also relay exercises. Due to the increasing difficulty degrees (1 -> 6 stars) everybody can evolve according to his own pace.

Bringing the sport of orienteering into schools was the initial goal. Like most sports, orienteering has an acute lack of young people. Unfortunately, many teachers do not know exactly what orienteering actually is. All they think about is a forest and a special coach to teach instead of themselves. If they can be convinced that orienteering can be done on the school grounds, they will ask you to draw a small map and develop some exercises. This kind of work can be done for a number of schools in one year, but it brings no structural solution.

That is how the idea has grown to create a standard set of exercises which can to be used by every school, with no need of a map of the school surroundings. The map can of course be realized afterwards, but in the meantime elementary exercises can be started. Examples of these exercises can be found on the internet, but you still have to develop them yourself. This set of exercises of Go4orienteering ends all that! The exercises are ready to go and ready to be used and they are adapted to the school’s environment. The safety and time limit are guaranteed.

More and more exercises have been added and even more technical skills are taken into consideration. In the beginning it is about keeping the map orientated, to work in front of you (to keep your position behind the map) and to stay in contact with the map. But the exercises can also be used to practice the routine actions at the control (quickly moving away from the control, knowing in which direction to leave), reading the map while running, looking ahead and planning ahead (solving problems before hand), and so on.

Afterwards, when the students are capable of executing the exercises fluidly, the goal remains to draw real maps of schools and nearby parks. It is wrong to think that a large forest is absolutely necessary to practice orienteering. A park or even a school area, which are secure environments, mostly well delimited and without traffic, is sufficient to learn the basic skills. For a student these are well known surroundings so this can decrease his initial resistance. But, not of every park or school a map exists. Go4orienteering also offers the drawing of such maps and can help the teacher to teach the sport of orienteering as well and we can also help to develop more or new exercises.

By frequently using the sets of exercises it became clear that these exercises are not only a good solution for schools. Everybody who has the goal or profession to make people move can take profit of the exercises. That is one of the reasons of the foundation of the non-profit organization Go4orienteering.

Go4orienteering has now been used for more than 5 years and the number of users is still increasing, this especially through verbal recommendation. Go4orienteering is also spreading on an international level, it is now in use in more than 10 countries in Europe and since 2014 it is also used in the USA. With this webpage the first steps have been taken to make these unique exercises public and to offer them for a very attractive price.

A lot is possible with a bit of equipment!
